Leeds IMC 2026

Monday, 6th June

We’ll be hosting 4 sessions as part of our Hard Times series at Leeds this year! We were thrilled to receive so many thoughtful abstracts, and have a packed agenda for the biggest medieval event of the summer. Our paper sessions, entitled ‘Fascism’, ‘Reappropriation’ and ‘Trauma’, have been shaped by our speakers’ desires to engage with the political landscape of 2026. The thematic strands linking these sessions flag the issues that seem most ‘difficult’ to us in the here and now. We’ll be rounding these sessions off with a Round Table in the evening. All are welcome!

ISSEME

July 2025 – Düsseldorf

The three co-organisers of ADAM discussed the aims and plans of the network at the 22nd Biennial Conference of the International Society for the Study of Early Medieval England, in the form of a roundtable.

Inaugural workshop

23rd-24th September 2024 – St John’s College, Oxford

Our first workshop featured 15 thoughtful papers on topics ranging from disabilities in early medieval texts to accounts of conjugal violence across historical records. Our delegates collaborated in thoughtful discussion about the tangle of problems faced by researchers of such topics not just in medieval studies but beyond. We were especially thrilled to welcome Professor Corinne Saunders (University of Durham) as our keynote speaker.
